Hello,

Can someone please direct me to where I can find the section sizes used to great standard Open Web Steel Joists? For example - in the standard joist tables, they list multiple section designation (ie. 16K3, 16K4, 16K5, etc.) but what are the different sections that make up the K3 vs K5?

Thanks!

Each joist manufacturer will design a 16K3(or any other size) differently. They are just required to meet the shear and moment capacities listed in the SJI manual. How they meet those requirements is up to them. The best way to analyze existing joists is to go field measure them or compare moments and shears from new/existing loading.

I think it's also important to note their sections aren't the standard sections out of AISC. They tend to have some weird thicknesses.
