the people here put on a sales seminar and touted the new catia translator was included in NX. and if you look into the install directory UGCatia is new. This has the .dll files for the new direct translator. I tried to find out how to set the compig to get the damn thing to work.
Here's the text of the call I submitted,
Greetz, At a training sales seminar, they told us that NX had a beta catia translator included. But did not give information on how to get the translator to work....
Please give me those instructions.

The result of the Beta testing was that the Catia V4 Model Import/Export did not meet our production standards and we have discontinued our relationship with the Alliance partner who developed the tool.
There are no plans for a replacement in the near future.
You are absolutly right "verbom", It did'nt worked for me too. There was some error like :
"The following files could not be loaded causing this open to fail: The Parasolid CATIA translator failed to read the CATIA file."
Can you please tell me the possible reason for it or any other way to Import CATIA file in NX.
Urgent

v4 catia files(*.model) typically have spaces in the file name.
A Aix/unix space character will look like a Plus/minus sign on a pc. I renamed the .model file(no spaces or any odd characters) then it read in fine.
Had to toggle thru the layers to find the part.
Came up with some message saying these is a beta version of the translator.
And that it may not be included in later releases.
