Hello,

I have an issue with opening STEP files, with different settings based on how a STEP file is opened.
NX version: 1919 (Build 3400).
STEP type: AP214

Issue:
[ul]
[li]Opening the STEP-file using drag-and-drop from Windows Explorer into NX, it imports only the solid and surface-model (geometric) elements, without CSys or Datum Planes.[/li]
[li]Opening the same STEP-file using the File->Import->STEP214 menu will offer the option to import CSys and Datum Planes, and imports all features as expected.[/li]
[/ul]

We'd like to change the drag-and-drop settings to use the same as the Import-STEP214 uses (that menu retains the last used settings), so opening STEP files is consistent for everyone, regardless of method. Right now this difference creates constant issues when passing files around between departments or different physical locations.

Any ideas how to change the settings for drag-and-drop?

Thanks!

There are a few setttings under File - Utilities - Customer defaults : Gateway - Translators - Step
and you can set a system variable ( Windows variable) "STEP214UG_DIR" to define where the file mentioned below resides.
The settings you ask about is set in a "defaults file = .def " named :

C:\"your_installed_directory"\step214\step214ug.def
( The step214ug.def is "Step to NX" and the ug214step.def is "NX to Step" settings.)
Edit this file using notepad , or :
click the settings you like in the step dialog, then use the option "save settings to file" in the import dialog .
Note that the System variable points to the mentioned file which means you either must save the same file with changed settings or you must change the variable to select a different file.

The step214ug.def ( and the ug214step.def) can be placed in a common directory on a server to serve all users.

Regards,
Tomas
