Are there other forums out there?

I've googled but haven't found one like this one just yet.

SimpliEngineering is a spinoff of engtips. Several of the users here have signed up and participated but it seems to have died down a lot.

From what I've come across, is ok. There is some quality content there, at least enough to justify venturing over there occasionally.

I'm probably biased considering that I actively participate here (more than I should) and not on reddit, but in terms of the quality of the threads here and the collective knowledge base of the contributors, I'm borderline amazed of this place. I've gained significant engineering knowledge both lurking here (over the years) and contributing (more recently). In my opinion the only technical online community that surpasses eng-tips is stackoverflow, which is for programming, not engineering.

Certainly, if somebody knows of another structural engineering resource as great as this, I'd look to know as well.

An early publication, "The Steel Skeleton", by Baker had a bit of a discussion on how office loadings varied depending on the area. The publication was about 60 years ago and is one of the engineering classics.

CR4 Engineering Forum features various disciplines including Building and Construction. Civil Engineering is included, but not Structural as a separate discipline.

sefindia.org. It's Indian but conducted in English and often discussing US codes. There are some sharp folds over there.

Can I just ask about that dik answer about office live load????

lex - no, you may not. dik has more than earned the right to post whatever he wants, wherever he wants.

It was probably a response intended for another thread that got plopped into the wrong browser tab by accident. That happens to me occasionally when I have a lot on my plate.

No worries just having a little fun. Om here till Tuesday don't forget to tip your wait staff.

It looks like internet archive (which is currently recovering from a hack) has the book to one degree or another, sometimes these only work for folks with print limitations.

Man. I'm four votes short. At this rate in 60 more months I'll have caught up with KootK....
