Over defined mid point and annoying dim shadow box

In drawings, when dimensioning to a mid point of an entity, why does it always come up as over defined?

Second, how do you get rid of that annoying box that pops up when you select a dimension in a drawing? I've "looked" unsuccessfully.

Re-the mid-point dimension ... I don't know

Wow, that would be so easy if the uppers hadn't pulled maintenance at sp 0.0.

Thanks for the info. The mid point issue has been there since at least 2004.

I'm not 100% sure the following will work for SP0, but it's worth a try.

In the registry, go to;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2010\Dimensions and RMB in the RH panel and add a DWORD key 14504

The end result should be;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2010\Dimensions\14504(DWORD)=1

Tried both methods but no success. Well, thanks for the input. Maybe in 2014 when we go from 2010 to 2014 I can finally turn it off. =)

Please post an example of what you are trying to do. Are you actually in a drawing or a sketch in a part file? I just tried adding a dimension to the midpoint of an entity in both a drawing and to a line element in a sketch and the dimension tool would not grab the midpoint in either.

Using ordinate dimensions in drawings and selecting the midpoint of a line mainly. Since rectangles can't generate their "center mark" in a drawing, I just rmb a line and click "select midpoint". Or you can filter midpoints and get it that way.

I guess it'd be interesting to hear how others are dimensioning rectangles using ordinate dims.

Are the rectangles machined or punched in sheet metal?

If you are getting an over-defined error, I assume you must be placing the ordinate dimensions in the part. Using the Center Rectangle tool to create the rectangular hole will allow the centre point of the sketch to be used as a selection point for the ordinate dimension.

BTW ... I have never had the over-defined error when dimensioning to a mid-point.

Ordinates generated in drawing file. The center rectangle is fine until you do a pattern feature.

So I just did a small scale test with one square in a drawing. Apparently, when it drops a dim on the midpoint, it sets it to driving. Edges, vertices and everything else get set to driven by default.
