We are having a discussion in the the office and are looking for some clarification. We have a project with wood trusses spanning 30' between load bearing walls. The trusses then extend out 10' on each end and are supported by beams and posts at the ends. I believe we should be using overhang wind pressures where the trusses extend out past the load bearing wall. One engineer says you can look at it as being enclosed/partially open and not use overhang. What are your thoughts?

Where I practice we use the NBCC and we would 100% use the overhang pressures. That's precisely what those are for. I don't see how you can make the argument it is enclosed/partially open.

However, to be clear, that's applying the overhang pressures to only the truss that is overhanging. The remainder of the truss between the bearing walls would be designed for whatever those pressures are for the situation.
