Hello,

Currently we have a overhead crane at our site. its sitting on pretty thin slabs. now im working on extending the crane's runway, but while doing that. we will need to get rid of the current slabs, and install new foundation work. i checked the geo data, and calculated the approx area needed for the pads. now i know the length and with of my pads, but i dont know the thickness, and i dont know if they need to rebar or anything. im just doing rough calculations so we can figure out the approximate cost for the project and will get a proper foundation engineer to design the foundation. i still want to learn how to do this though. if you can point me in a direction of calculations that i need to do. codes, etc, all help will be appreciated.
The crane currently has 4 legs, with the extension, the crane will have 8 legs. i need to design a pad/ slab that we can bold the crane on to. It is a 1 ton crane

This is a very easy design and for a one ton crane, minimum reinforcing is likely to control. But you still should get a structural engineer to do it. For example, the thickness is likely governed by the anchor bolt length, not by structural stresses. And anchor bolt design is very involved.

Revisiting this again. is there a specific code regarding bolting of the footing for over head cranes, or cranes in general?

With a crane this small you may be able to use oversized base plates to reduce the load on the slab and thereby avoid the construction of dedicated footings. I believe that Canadian Crane has specified this type of system in the past.
