Overiding automatic snap-to when inserting text 2

Is there some sort of override of the automatic "snap-to" function when inserting text. It seems like every time I try to insert text, it wants to associate itself to other text entities. Once it picks up on the other entity, it holds on with bulldog tenacity.

Is there a user setting to prevent this or a hot key combination to override?

After you create your note, you can hold down the ALT key and move the note without association to existing objects.

Thanks. I had tried that, but only after the new note had pick up on another note. The Alt key doesn't seem to break that bond, but holding it down before the bond occurs prevents the new note from associating with existing notes.

What version of NX are you running? In NX 4, moving a dimension/note after it was created, even if the original origin was linked to another dimension/note, as long as it does not snap to any new dimension/note it will break the 'link' automatically. Also, when I move an existing dimension/note, the Alt key will still disables the snapping.

The ALT key does disable the snapping function for me when adding/moving a note if it is pressed and held before a snap occurs. That is, if I pick/create a note, press and hold the ALT key, then move the note, it moves or inserts with no problem.

On the other hand, when I try to move or insert a note without the ALT key and the note tries to snap to a location, then at that time it is too late to use the ALT key. Once it has picked up on a snap point, I usually have to go ahead place the note with its new association and then re-move it, or cancel the move and try again.

This is only a problem when there are a number of notes in the are I am working. If there are only a couple of notes, then the note in transition can be dragged far enough to lose the snap without picking up a new snap from another note.

Have I made this confusing enough or should I try harder?

I believe I had the same issue. Try toggling off Preferences > Drafting > Preview > Dynamic Alignment. If that's what you needed, click it off in your customer defaults as well.

Yes, in NX 3, you have to hold down the Alt key before you start to drag the dimension/note around, but in NX 4 you can do it anytime you want even after it has already 'snapped' onto something and it will break it loose and disable any further snapping.
