I am currently helping others to investigate the use of ozone treatment of groundwater to remove organic contaminants. We have been using ozone and peroxide and it seems to work well on the contaminants, but our Bromate levels are too high. We have tried using Ferrous Chloride (instead of the peroxide)and Ammonium sulfate (to control the Bromate formation). This worked for the Bromate, but now our contaminants aren't being treated. Can anyone tell me why this would be, and also the reaction mechanism between ozone, ammonium sulfate and ferrous chloride? What are the byproducts? Thanks,

How are you injecting the ozone? We recently constructed a machine to inject ozone into the ground, but as you are aware the organics are troublesome. Have you tried ozone/UV?

The ozone is injected using a Mazzei injector. We are in the testing phase and are not injecting into the ground yet. We are trying to stay away from UV, and just use Ozone and minimal other chemicals. Reducing the Bromate seems to be the biggest obstacle with this. Have you had any luck with ammonia, Fe++, or pH control?
