Firstly, I hope I'm 'allowed' to be here - I did get a geophys degree once upon a time, I told myself that counts...

Secondly, how would I go about finding someone to do an analysis of a pallet rack shed with a wrap around ramp? The couple of local offices I called seemed to not even know what I was talking about, so I turned to the internets. Building codes aren't really an issue, I just want to make sure it's as overbuilt as I believe it to be. Any help you can provide would be appreciated - I don't know if I'm using the wrong terms or if perhaps I'm looking for something of a specialist...

Generally I would approach it with one (or all) of the following:

1) Contact your local offices. If they are unable to help ask them for a recommendation. Generally the engineers know others that provide the type of engineering to meet your needs.

2) Contact the manufacturer. For racking the manufacturer's generally will provide engineering support or they will know of engineers that can provide it.

Either way you need to feel comfortable with the engineer. Ask for qualifications and if in the process of reviewing your project you aren't comfortable - look for someone else. There are engineers that will take on work outside of their abilities.
