Parametric study 1

Hello everyone,

I am new to Abaqus. I want to perform a parametric study in Abaqus. how do I do that?

For running several jobs with simple variations in geometry I use python script. Record a macro then edit the macro file to generalize some parameter in the input so that you can easily make new models.

Thanks corus for your suggestion. I have couple of other questions as well. Abaqus example manual has few examples on parametric study. The manual provides the .inp files and .psf files . how can I run those files in Abaqus /cae ?

.inp files can be loaded in CAE with import model. psf files I've not heard of.

Yes I tried to Import .inp files. It works for all the input files except for the parametrized input file. when I try to run such a file the warning displays

WARNING: The input file contains one or more data items which have been parameterized. Parameterized input files can not yet be imported into Abaqus/CAE. The problem occured while scanning input file for parameterized data. The input file will not be imported.

According to Abaqus online documents a file with the .psf extension contains Python (Lutz, 1996) instructions to generate, execute, and gather output for the parametric variations of the parametrized input file.

"The volume of 80 elements is zero, small, or negative. Check
coordinates or node numbering, or modify the mesh seed. In the case
of a tetrahedron this error may indicate that all nodes are located
very nearly in a plane. The elements have been identified in element
set ErrElemVolSmallNegZero."



This is the error that I am getting while trying to perform the parametric study. imf anybody has any ideas please advice me

If you use Viewer then these 80 elements are placed into a set which you can choose and highlight with the display group manager. You should be able to see where the problem lies then.
