This problem has been asked before in another thread on this site with the subject "Part Number Conflict". However, I was not able to find a suitable solution from that thread.

Essentially, I have a CATIA subassembly (let's call it B) that I'm looking to copy into a larger CATIA assembly (let's call it A). However, if the subassembly "B" has any components in it that are already in the larger assembly (such as fasteners), then it will not let me copy the subassembly "B" into "A" and gives me the following message:

"The Part Number XXXXXX already exist. It must be unique in an assembly".

I shouldn't have to rename any parts in order to be able to copy subassembly "B" into "A", even if "B" contains components in it that are already present in "A". Is there a fix for this problem yet? I've been running into this problem for years now.

Thanks,
Hatef

If I understand correctly, both assemblies "A" and "B" are referencing some children component "C". Are both assemblies "A" and "B" referencing children files "C" from the same folder? If the children files, whether parts or products, are all in the same folder then there should be no issue. However, if assembly "A" references children files in folder 1, and assembly "B" references children files in folder 2, then I would expect there to be a conflict. The reason is because the first instance of child "C" may or may not be exactly the same as the second instance. But if you're working out of a single Windows folder then the behavior gets better.

The unexpected case is issues where there are some little corruptions in the product structure that will cause this. Running CATDUA on the CATProduct files usually helps.

Yeah i think that too. If they are from different folders it will be the problem, because it's not the same part and has same name.
From other side that telling me that you don't some system of part number and names inside your product.
If it's some start assembly you re using, it can't be same name like in your actual work.

Thank you both! You were absolutely right and this solved my problem very easily. Again thanks for replying.
