Part won't update

Hey Guys,
I have a part that is driven with a design table (xml spreadsheet) and the thing won't update. The parameters in the spreadsheet have been changed and usually the model will automatically update. Any ideas what is going on? This is terribly frustrating.

I'll add that I just upgraded to R19 from R16 and the model was originally made in 16.

With the upgrade, you now have two update icons when you're in Part Design. The new one (the one with the finger) let's you quickly switch between auto update and manual update. If the Update icon with the finger is orange, then you're in manual update mode and you have to update the part yourself.

You may also have a conflict in the design table (on the Excel side) that disallows an update. It's very hard to know with so little information. R19 (SP03) has not been kind to us, though.

Try making small changes to the numbers, based on your last (known) good configuration.

Well I'm running SP4. I don't think I'm in manual mode.

I have the part and xml in a folder. The original one seems to update fine but I copy and paste that folder into the folders for other assemblies so I can assemble it to them. It seems like after copying the folder the update doesn't work

Lemme know what other information you guys need and I'll post back

Thanks for the help.

OK, that's the problem!

The friggen copied part is referencing the xml in the original location instead of the new copy of the xml in the copied Dir.

How do I set this stupid thing to look for the xml in the part directory? Does this have something to do with the stupid linked document localization crap?

Set linked document localization to
Relative folder
Folder of Pointed document
Folder of Link

Regards,
Derek

Thanks Derek, that linked document localization is a PITA.

Nope  This thing is being a miserable asshole. Now it won't let me assemble parts to the assembly that are in the same F'ing directory. It's giving me some linked document localization error.

I'm getting MAD. I can't get any god damn work done.

ok, so when the settings are:

Folder of the link
folder of the pointing document
relative folder

I can assemble things to the assembly but my part it looking to the XML in the original location, instead of in the copied directory I'm working out of.

When the settings are

folder of the pointing document
Folder of the link
relative folder

I can update the part based on my XML in the right directory but now it's giving me this friggen error about not being able to insert the part because of the linked document localization settings.

Wally - chances are, it's a bug. We are having major issues with loss of data and "link localization" errors, when there actually are no errors with link localization at all. (by the logic of previous releases)

R19 is a disaster of a release, pure and simple.

The main problem with R19 seems to be that it allows multiple files with *exactly* the same name to be opened from *different* file paths. All of the problems that we are seeing in R19 seem to be hinging on that discrepancy, and I suspect that yours does, also.

Well that's good to know. I'm glad it's not just me. Significant errors seem to be par for the course with this turd of a piece of software.

Thanks for the heads up, it makes me feel a whole lot better.

There's no problem with the software, on the whole. It's no better or worse than anything else on the market. (it just has it's own quirks) This particular release is troublesome, but I'm optimistic that it will get worked out. It always does. And when the problems happen again, as they always do, it will get fixed again. (and again, and again...)

This is the type of problem you have with "pay per use" software. Unfortunately, we are prisoners of the contract. Just be happy that you have the privilege of complaining about the tools of your trade. Not everyone has a trade right now...

lol I dunno about that. I didn't have NEARLY as many problems when I was using ProE.

I'm running SP4 right now and I'm going to be swearing at this thing until they come out with SP5 (which will hopefully fix these problems).

Yeah, dassault knows that they can rape big business. This kind of incompetence would never fly anywhere else, except in the government.

I hear ya. I've actually seen some major cutbacks and the work I'm doing right now is the first I've seen in a month. Times is tough.

SP5 is available. Don't know that it will help you though.
