Partial Section Cut in Assembly 2

I know this has been sort of covered with a drafting option - but am wondering if it might be possible to do it in Assembly. I have an assembly of 5 pieces. I would like to do a section cut of the first 4 but leave the last piece as a solid representation. In other words I would like to omit the last part from the section cut. Anyone know if this might be possible or if it can only be done using breakouot in drafting?

If you are referring to the 'clip work section' view tool in modeling; then no, it is not possible.

"do not section component" is available, but I am not certain if it will work in your situation or not. I typically use that for shafts, and things like that.

Yeah - I was looking for a 3D option. Jerry - I think that option is only available in 2D drafting?

This can be simulated using the Assembly Cut functionality but that will actually modify, at the assembly level anyway, the components of the assembly.

However, as part of the PMI module's functionality, there is a Model Sectioning function which will allow you create arbitrary cutting planes, select which components are to be sectioned or not, and it creates this all as a view-dependent operation so that you can see the model sectioned or non-sectioned (or even multiple-sectioning scenarios) by just switching between different Modeling views.

Here's an example of what can be done using the PMI Sectioning:

Note that you could have created the same result using Assembly Cut, however it would have actually modified the assembly model by creating an actual 'hole' in the model whereas the PMI function only created a view-dependent 3D 'picture' of a 'sectioned' model.
