I am using Catia V5, release 17.
I created a step file of an assembly that
has translated data from another solid modeling
software and newly created models from catia v5.
When I attempt to import the created step file into
I-Deas the V5 models do not appear.
Does anyone know why this would happen?
Thanks in advance.

sorry I did not clarify.
We have the I-deas step license.
The translated model did appear, but the
models created with V5 did not appear

1) you need to have the step license from Dassault
2) check Tools -- Options -- Compatibility -- Step

You should have export set to AP 214 iso
Assemblies One Step File

I believe the default is links to Catia model.

If DBezaire's recommendation about changing your settings doesn't work (although I'm betting that is the problem), how large is the STEP file? I've had problems importing into Ideas when the step file was larger than 40MB. You can read where I asked about it here:
If the STEP file is large and you aren't able to change your memory settings as described in the above link, try saving parts of the assembly in different step files to break it up into several small STEP files instead of one large file. You can then use boolean operations in Ideas to put the pieces back together (turning off the relations function makes this much easier).

thanks for all the answers..
ataloss, I believe you hit it on the head.
When I broke the pieces up, everything worked out.
I reassembled the parts together.
thanks again..
