Patch plate bigger than manhole

Hi guys...

I have to weld a patch plate on a API650 tank bottom and this patch is bigger than the manhole.
May I cut this patch in the middle, weld both parts inside the tank and than weld on the tank bottom?

What is the size and thickness of patch plate ? The bottom plates for API 650 tanks in general 6 mm and you can make a roll .

patch plate size: 780 X 580 (mm)

Did you check the roof manhole ?
I would prefer patch plate max. size less than available manhole clear openings .
