Well this is my first forum thread so here goes........

I hoping to get help with a PATRAN installation on a new windows 8 pc.

The install seemed to work fine for a few days but then the size of the viewport has become bigger than the window and my toolbars are outside the visible area on my screen.

There are no scroll bars to bring the non-visible parts of the window back and as I can get to the menus on the right of the screen I can't really do much to see if the settings can be changed.

I've done a reinstall but nothing changed.

A colleague suggested it might be a compatible hardware issue but we're not sure how to check this out.

Any suggestions very gratefully received.[thumbsup2]

According to Patran Release Guide, Windows 8 is not an official supported platform of Patran. So you'd better not to use Patran on Windows 8 in my opinion.

I may have to take that advice ultimately but I would like to get to the bottom of this problem before I do. It's quite a drastic fix which would mean removing windows 8 from the laptop and going back to windows 7. I'd like to stay with 8 if possible as I expect/hope it will become useable and accepted in the long run.

I'm not entirely sure that this is the full story as another pc in our office has the same problem and it's a Windows 7 pc?!?!

I was wondering if it is an issue with the graphics driver. Does anyone know how to check out if it's compatible?

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I had the opposite problem on PATRAN x64 on my laptop (Windows 7). Basically The program would work fine, but only a small window (600x450 odd) was visible. The program could be made full screen, but the window was truncated.

Managed to get it working by disabling the skin feature on start-up.

Steps are as follows:

1. Right Click on your Desktop short cut and open the properties
2. In the "Target:" textbox the default is "...blah blah \bin\patran.exe -iam MD -skin"
3. Change this to be .... "\patran.exe -iam MD -no skin"
4. Click Apply and Run PATRAN

The other option is to change the Graphics boot option:

1. Start -> Run -> "MSConfig"
2. Click on the "Boot" tab
3. Under boot option check the "Base Video" tickbox
4. Apply and re-start

This can cause your PC to boot with a funky resolution for the first 1 or 2 re-boots, but it can be easily changed back via the desktop settings. If it doesn't work just un-check the Base Video box and reboot again and everything is back to normal.

Don't know if either of these will fix your problem, but its all I got!

Good Luck!
