Has anyone seen a substation paved? I can only recall ever seeing them with crushed gravel. Looking at 230kv to 13.8kv or 13.8kv down to 600V.

Thanks,

Dobber78,

I don't think I have ever seen one paved for higher Voltages. I am not sure why you would want to. Paving implies rebar, wire mesh, etc..., for concrete strength and to limit cracking. I don't know how you would calculate the step potential for reinforced concrete at a switch or transformer. At lower Voltages, I have seen them, but many of those used enclosed gear with grounded enclosures.

Actually we have paved a substation with asphault for step and touch potential reasons. A reason for that is that the substation is on a rock and sand hill, with no water table below it.

The joke is the only thing missing is the parking lines.

For concrete to be used, you can't use rebar or wire mesh, you would have to use fiberglass. We did this for a under ground transmission road crossing.
