Anyone have a link to one of the many free pdf translators? I have a client who wants to read some ACAD Files, and he has Acrobat on his system.
Thanks-

Hello cfee,

there are a lot of ways to make a *.pdf file.

My favourite:

1. Make an *.eps file with ACAD (Plotmanager: PostScript Level 1 Plus)
2. (Then you can work with Acrobat Destiller)
or use AFPL Ghostscript 8.00 ( )

Did you install Ghostscript and Ghostview, it’s easy to make *.dwg -> *.eps -> *.pdf files.

Bobnorman & Lothar:
Thanks guys. I'm going to start with the downloadable freeware 1st. I've used it before with good success. However I AM intreagued by the Lothar suggestion, and plan to explore it as opportunity permits.
Thanks again,

Hey Guys (& Gals?)-
Thanks for all your input. I'm interested in exploring all the feedback I've gotten so far.

Using the free PDF995, I used ^c to pick up some all-black vectors, dropped the vectors into WORD and wrote a PDF. Worked great, and no matter how far I've zoomed, I can't get the "Pixels" to enlarge large enough to muddy the image.
Why all-black vectors? I don't have to change printer settings to handle colors in shades of grey...

I checked out simply printing the ACAD dwg to PDF, and the PDF remained clear and readable fully into zoom territories that you'd expect to lose detail (down to single characters enlarged to fill a monitor screen)and found NO SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF DETAIL! Pixels were enlarged, but VERY READABLE! I haven't experimented with land-sized drawings yet, but expect the results to be as satisfactory.

Net compromise with the free PDF writer:

Print straight from ACAD to PDF- VERY printable, GOOD "Zoom-ability".

^c vectors to WORD, print to PDF: EXCEPTIONAL zoomability, adequate printability: vectors so thin that without tweaking print settings, lines may be too thin for some tastes, EXCEPTIONAL page-placement control in WORD.

The free PDF995 offers some additional capabilities in associated suite members that I've not had the opportunity to explore yet.

I plan to pay the MODEST licensing fees (~$10/unit!) as a reward for such an excellent product. The others you've suggested I consider will also receive favorable responses should my experimentation warrant such favorable response.

If you'd like, we can keep this thread open for further experimentation. Post here from time to time to let me know. I've really enjoyed the successful responses we've shared here.

Good luck, all-
C. Fee
