PDMWorks - Can't Find Files

I have checked in various assembly files from my working directory on my C drive.
When I checked each one in, I selected 'Delete Local Copy' and deselected 'Retain Ownership'.
When I go to 'Open Document' from the vault, for any of those assemblies, it starts to open it up then I get the 'Unable to Locate File' message for the parts and it shows that it is looking on my C drive and not in the vault. I didn't think this was happening yesterday, is it possible that I have changed something?

I'd appreciate the help,
Lori

You may have to 'Check out' and not 'open document'.

Yeah, it works fine when I do the 'check out', I guess that is the only way to do it.

Would you happen to know how to delete an old revision of a file off of the vault?

You have to make sure no one owns it, login as 'Administrator', take ownership, right click on doc, 'delete document'.

Re: orig question
Itlooks like PDM/Works was not grabbing the dependent files required for the assembly. Although using the checkout does in fact grab all the dependents by default it also takes ownership of the assembly which may not be what you intend. It appears to me that when you selected the assembly to "open" that you did not select it's dependents from the reference window on lower half. To select the components you can click on selection box one by one which can be tedius or simply right mouse click the reference window and a menu will display some choices one of which is "select all". Be carefull not to do this when you select checkout on a assembly as it will not only get all the reference files but it will also take ownership of all the files selected.

Good luck.
Hope this helps.

Re: Deleting documents.

When you delete a document it deletes the document and all revisions(versions) of that document from the vault. There is a way (atleast i have been told)to recover a deleted document so long as as a particular folder in the vault is not deleted. I may be wrong but there is no way to delete say a particular revision of a document. Ex.If you have revision A, B & C you can't remove "B" from the vault. You can overwrite the latest revision which in effect is a type of removing a revision but that only works for the latest REv. PDM/Work2004 does have a feature that archives(removes) older revisions based on a user defined range so that you can save vault space. It also has a built in way of recovering archived versions.

While it is not recommended, you can do quite a lot by hacking around in the vault. I haven't actually tried it, but I think you could delete a revision by:

1, Stopping the PDMWorks service.

2, Deleting the specific revision from the vault.

3, Restarting the PDMWorks service.

Though I'm not sure why you would want to do this.

Deleted documents go into the obsolete folder in the project they were deleted from. You should be able to recover the file by:

1, Stopping the PDMWorks service.

2, Moving the document's folder out of the obsolete folder, and putting them back where they were.

3, Restarting the PDMWorks service.
