I am taking the PE exam this Oct. 2010 in electrical power. I bought the sample questions and solution book from the NCEES, the problem is that it only has one sample exam (80 problems) and i heard that the material from the ppi2pass is different than the actual exam and that i might be wasting my time studying from it. Does anybody know what is the best material to study for this coming electrical power exam.

thank you guys for the help.

I've got to say that the NCEES information (since they publish the test) is the best base to work from. If you can work all of the problems in their book, you will be in good shape. Also, make sure that you are familiar with the NEC version that the test uses (2007? 2010?) and how to navigate that manual. Be very careful of exceptions to rules as they can bite you quickly. Other than that, study, study, and study. :)

Below are the list of books which I think are best suited for electrical power exam.

- Power System Analysis by Grainger and Stevenson
- Electrical machines, drives and power systems by Theodore Wildi
- NEC, NFPA 70
- Handbook of Electric Power Calculations by H. Wayne Beaty
- NCEES study material - PE Electrical and Computer: Power
- Protective Relaying Theory and Application by J. Lewis Blackburn

I wish you do the best on your exam

Batman,

I found that the NCEES practice exam book (I believe it has a distribution station on the front) is VERY similar to the actual test as far as types of questions and difficulty. It would be very beneficial if you could work all 80 problems in that test as well as be able to navigate the reference manual you have and NEC 2008. Are you planning on taking an Exam Prep course? I signed up for Testmasters in Houston for the October Exam. They have a no fail guarantee and are supposedly the best test prep company for the electrical - power exam.
