PE Raise 1

I just passed the PE in Maryland, but I think my situation may be a little different than most. I am now one of two PEs in my office and I work for a general contractor, not a design office. I just recieved a 5% raise in the beginning of June for my yearly increase. I have not recieved a bump from passing the PE yet. What are peoples experiences with this? Should I expect one now? I am waiting to get reciprocity in DE where we also do a lot of work. I am considering waiting until that process is completed to ask the powers that be.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I read some posts before I posted my question and I am looking more for some opinion on what I think is a unique situation...maybe it's not so unique. I work for a general contractor doing heavy highway and land development work. I don't get into too much design work aside from looking at alternate proposals from what the local engineering companies design. I had hoped someone might have some insight to this situation. From what I can see from various salary surveys (ASCE & salary.com) I am about 12.5% below average for my position. Obviously, I can jump ship and move on, but I enjoy my work and the company as well. I guess I'll play it by ear, wait until I get licensed in DE, and go from there.

Salary surveys, in the UK at least, are things to be treated with a degree of scepticism. For example, I'm on a reasonable salary for the north of England, but which would be distinctly low for the south-east where the cost of living is much higher. I also don't believe that the respondents to salary survey are evenly distributed though the salary range, and that the respondents are typically distributed in the higher end of the spectrum. This is certainly borne out by the recruitment press, where salaries on offer simply don't tally with the results of the surveys.

You situation is not unique. It falls under the general category "I got a new shingle hanging on my wall - pay me what I think I'm worth."

What are you to do? If the time has passed nothing. Once you get recipricity, then go to your boss and ask for a raise. Then wait and see.
