pH meter problem..help me. 2

is that true that probe of PH meter(after reading the PH) put in KCl solution before the next reading? or it is wrong method.
we have problem and must calibrate the PH meter after short period and i think it is may be from this operation.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions.

pH meters do not last forever, maybe you need a new one.
 
Hi,

Placed in KCl solution to prevent wear on the electrode, once you have calibrated your Phmeter should have no problems.
- Check the temperature of the samples meet the specifications of the electrode.
- Check your calibration buffers are correct. (normally used calibrated between 4 and 7)
- Check that the slope of the electrode is above 90% after calibration.

What does your pH sensor instruction manual say?

Most pH meters have a membrane sensor that must be kept wet. If you have a process operation, you can keep the pH sensor in the fluid indefinitely. If you are in a lab where you periodically test, you will probably keep the sensor in the standard solution.

 
Yes it's normal and better to put the electrode in a KCl solution.
It's not the end of the world if you do not, as long as the membrane is kept wet.
 
I worked for a while in pHmeter calibration and standard solution production.

Yes, electrodes must be kept wet - better in a KCl solution if they are KCl electrodes.

If the electrode is malfuctioning, it can have a dirty membrane that needs to be cleaned.

But even if treated with the best care, electrodes won't last forever.

Las, some days instruments just go nuts and do not keep calibration.
 
Lab pH may differ from some of the recent digital pH monitor devices have improved the technology. This message cannot help with the lab; and is limited in experience for field suggestions too.

You may web check for some digital, smart or intellegent pH transmitter phrases among their advertisements. Some newer pH devices include automatic buffer recognition that is selectable as a calibration option. In addition to temperature compensation, some online pH transmitters recognizes the buffer during calibration. The sensor sends the type of data to the transmitter to automatically configured a measurement.

BTW my own experience on these newer pH transmitters is limited to specifying and buying some of these without ever participating at the job site. Perhaps others could differentiate some of the manufacturer claims from actual experience. Perhaps the real experience exceeds this message too. ;-)
