Right now I'm developing a strain gage using High Carbon, Spring Tempered, C1085 Steel 0.23 mm piano wire. However from my few experiments from this material and some other materials, I found that C1085 Steel was not hard enough, and not so good and stable for "vibrating wire" application. Is there anyone knows about the suitable material for this applications? Thank you very much.

Most of us geotechs know the hardware, know what it does, and understand how it works, but don't understand the mechanical engineering that goes into the hardware. You might have better luck posting this kind of question to mechanical or materials science engineers.
