We are a gas transmission/distribuiton Company in Alaska. We have made some homemade pig catchers to catch our squeegee pigs and have blown the end out in some pretty dramatic fashions the last couple of runs. Does anyone have a good source for pig catcher designs or a design that has worked very well for them? Any suggestions? We were thinking of dropping an I-Beam in the end of our catcher for the pig to ram into but haven't given it a great deal of thought, simply ran through my mind that this would be a good place to ask the question.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Thanks all, yes I am in Anchorage. New to the gas field but have been a civil for 12 years. Was surprised that our company had these homemade recievers that worked so poorly. We have more advanced recievers for our intelligent pigging but for the squeegee we have just welded up some steel with a hole in the barrell for dissipation. Doesn't appear to be working too well.

Thanks for the comments and links.

I guess your line isn't CFR, or you have a "temporary" receiver bolted on. In any case, its not a bad idea to follow the fed regs, no matter if you're regulated or not. I always did (when I could), even though our gathering system was not CFR.

If it is a CFR pipeline, read CFR Title 49, Part 192.

Maybe some more info specifically concerning Alaska state regulations might be found here. I'll let you check that.
