Hi All,

Need advice/procedure to calculate the size of a drain vessel for pig trap area.

If I am heading in the right direction, then I think I need to be able to calculate the swept volume of liquid during the pigging of the pipeline (liquid pipeline).

Can anyone direct me to literature (links, papers, books,e tc) regarding the calculation method for 'swept pigging volume'.

Many Thanks in Advance,

Doubtful you will need to contain the swept volume. Try estimating the volume of accumulated delaterous materials you will try to remove that have been deposited during the pigging frequency time of the line in question and attempt to contain that volume plus a safety factor volume between where you will make the cut of clear liquids ahead of the delaterous materials. You can try estimating that safety volume based on previous experience or perhaps calculating the interface volume that would be developed during transport through the length of the pipeline between clear fluids and wax/sediment containing fluids behind.
