Pilot Operated Valves for Low Pressure Steam?

We are having trouble with a pilot operated valve in steam service. It appears that we do not have adequate pressure on the system to pressure up the dome section of the valve.

Has anyone had trouble with turn-down of operating pressure in pilot operated valves? Set-point is for 100 psig but it is sometimes seeing vacuum service when heating the tank contents to 175-200°F.

When is comes to dome pressure, there could be multiple issues involved. It may be that the valve in question is mis-sized (too large, too small). Also you may try out a load spring. Bascially, just a very low pressure spring in the dome that helps to facilitate dome pressure. If it does not work you may consider switching to a direct spring operated RV. It won't be effected in the same way by the vacuum situation and you wouldn't have to worry about dome pressure. Is this a Sec VIII or Sec I application? Either way this may be your best option. Plenty of great RV's for this application. If you have any questions give a valve shop a call.
