Pipe dimensions and tips 1

Hi, I have to deal right now with pipe diameters larger than 42" for an agricultural project ( I do not know what is the largest comercial diameter), but I have no information about comercial sizes, schedules or types of pipes. I will prefer to use steel pipes. So I will appreciate if anyone could bring me that info or where to find it (web pages, technical articles, books ( I have already try "Piping Handbook" and "Hidraulic Institute Engineering Information&quot). Also if someone could let me know where to find technical tips for making a huge pumping project. I am taking in account pipe prices, flange prices, pumps prices, electricity costs (bills, equipment).

Pipe sizes above 18" are usually fabricated to suit from plate. They may be spiral wound, or welded up from rolled plate. They are not a stock size. Flanges are cut from plate section and welded up. Bends are mitre cut and welded up from straight pipe section.

Pump prices are available from the pump Vendor, once you know flows and pressures.

Civil works, concrete, foundations and so on, have to be evaluated and estimated.

Electricity is far more difficult. I suggest you contact the local County Engineer.

If you need more detail for a project of this nature you'll have to contact a reliable Consulting Engineer who is experienced in this field - and negotiate fees for a conceptual feasibility study.

Hi,

It all depends on the client/end user specifications, design code, and the design conditions.

Welded pipe is indeed most commercial. The internal pressure is an important parameter.

The API 5L could be followed but depending on the minimum required wall thickness out of the internal pressure calculation the most commercial thickness could be assessed.
Due to the large bore it's allways the best to determine the nearest most commercial size and thickness after consultation of the supplier/manufacturer.
