I have several questions related to pipe design, specifically related to sizing of flanges and pipe thicknesses based on expected pressures.
Here's an example:
Say the maximum expected distribution pressure that is expected for a black steel 12" pipeline is 100 psi, and the maximum water hammer surge pressure is 100 psi.
According to AWWA C207 a Class D flange is only suitable for a pressure rating of 175 psi. Does this mean a Class E flange is required? What kind of factor of safety is used for the Class D pressure rating - if any? are allowances for surge pressures included?
