Pipe misalignment correction

We are replacing piping NPS 8 Sch 140 pipe spool by pipe spool. The spools are connected by flanges, with O ring seals. During fitting the flanges show misalignment sometimes several mm or more than in inch. The fitters use a chain hoist to bring the flanges together and torque the bolts. Horrible solutions but making a new pipe spool that does fit takes a lot of time (planning problems). What should I do?

I worked as a field engineer for construction of offshore platforms. After the platform is set, all the tie-in spools between different decks and modules were installed. Alot were installed by forcing them into position by come-alongs an inch or more. There comes a point where the spools have to be re-fabricated to fit, when this happened I was the one who re-iso's the line for re-fabrication. I think the way to look at it is if it can be pulled into place with a come-along then the piping is flexible enough that it is still within the elastic region of bending so it should be ok. However this would not be acceptable at a pump or equipment nozzle as it would likely overload the nozzle beyond the manufacturer's allowables.

You should reference to the industry standard these piping&spool follow. What does that follow?

@Snickster
I have been involved in a facility where the spools at the pump suction nozzle were regularly fitted by a hydraulic jack and this was considered ok.
