Pipe penetration through seepage barrier

Looking for recommendations/details of how to seal a pipe penetration through a 20 mil seepage barrier for a detention pond. The berm is about 5ft in height. The contractor is planning to key the 20 mil seepage barrier into the underlying clay soils. There are 2 pipe penetrations along the berm that need to be sealed to prevent seepage. It was originally going to be a clay seepage barrier, but the contractor went with the poly. Would clay or a bentonite-soil mixture work around the pipe penetrations?

Pipe penetrations are generally made with some type of boot. The gypsum method will probably not be successful unless the gypsum/soil depth is at least 4-6 Inches and the gypsum is fully incorporated into the soil. See the link:

While not part of the question, how are you protecting the membrane from sunlight, people walking in the slope and the protective cover sliding etc.?
Could be a lot of maintenance with the membrane, so the penetrations are only part of it.

What is the fluid? Can bentonite be used... it makes a wonderful seal. Doesn't work with some salts very well. Find the chemical and contact them.
