hello
My name is Damian, I am currently working on a down hole tool for the oil and gas industry and need to find out minimal wall thickness for tubular housings used in 5000psi enviroment. The housing is not pressure compensated as internal electronics must see minimal rises in pressure. Can somebody assist me with nescessary calculations and suggestions as our company will be involved in down hole applications more and more.

You need to have a copy to read and understand the code or standard that the apparatus is being designed and built under. You need to have a through understanding of the task and the implications of personal safety and failure of the device. If for some reason you don’t understand each function or calculation, get help from an experienced engineer/designer.
I am showing these formula to let you visualize the complexity and the required knowledge to design a down hole tool or instrument. This is just the mechanical aspect. You cannot cookbook a design in hopes it will work as the consequences of failure are quite high especially for someone new to the business.

The oil patch is now the world and you will be surprised how fast new travels of a down hole tool/instrument failure travels. Your name and your company will be mud, not drilling.

THANKYOU UNCLESYD, OUR LAST TOOL WAS A MAJOR SUCSESS AND SOUGHT AFTER BY THE WELL LOGGING COMPANIES. WE LOOK FWD TO SEE HOW WELL THIS UNIT WILL WORK. STAY TUNED AND I WILL BE INTOUCH FOR MORE.
