We currently need to price up replacing some 400 DN stainless steel pipework and a vessel. I have a few questions though if you dont mind. There is plenty of steel work available to weld on some lugs for the rigging but when the stainless is lifted in place how are you supposed to stabalise it to tack weld it in place?

Also we will have to lift the stainless vessel vertically. How do you go about this from a rigging point of view? The tank is around 5/6 tonnes.

Are there any pictures or drawings available for the "vessel" ? Were there any lifting lugs left on the vessel ?

If it is an ASME pressure vessel, you may be able to get drawings from the National Board (an agency in Ohio)

Keeping old SS piping from shifting during demolition is part of the skill set of the piping installer.
It is usually not much of a problem, although some "cold spring" may be enountered.

Vessel demolition and vertical lifting may involve welding on some lifting lugs and the use of a stiffener ( or strongback)

If you have never done this before, engage the services of a professional engineer.......
