Good morning all,

I am looking to expand my knowledge on pipeline design and/or B31.4 and would like to know if anyone has good books/articles/reference material that they can recommend. I have had very little experience in pipeline design, but would not like to wait until the project gets dropped on my desk and told to design it, to figure everything out.

Anyone have any good recommendations? BigInch/LittleInch perhaps?

Thanks to any responses.

Employ BI or LI.....

There are a number of courses available on design.

for construction issues try Vol 1 & " of the IPLOC Road to success.

You can get ed 3 for free here and

You just need to sign up to issuu

It's not really something you just "pick up" - that's why there are specialist design companies / engineers that do this stuff.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Thanks LI. Yeah, I don't expect to learn everything I should know without having an experienced mentor, but a little knowledge is better than none at all.

I appreciate the links.

Start with these (pretty much copies of ASME B31.4-2002 and ASME B31.8-2002) to learn what the minimum legally required features and functions are for any federally regulated gas and hazardous liquid pipeline constructed the USA. Specific states may have additional requirements.

TRANSPORTATION OF NATURAL AND OTHER GAS BY PIPELINE: MINIMUM FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS

TRANSPORTATION OF HAZARDOUS LIQUIDS BY PIPELINE

Let us know when you've gone as far as you can with those 4 links.
