Pipeline or Tank Hydrotest

I understand that leaving untreated (by chemicals) but filtered seawater in a pipeline for more than 30 days may cause MIC. I am involved with a project that can not use any chemicals but must leave the water in the pipeline for 30 days. Is there any science to explain the 30 day limit? Has anyone had experiences with MIC after leaving hydrotest water for more than 30 days? I assume the issue is the same for tanks.

There is no science to a 30 day rule. It will be an arbitrary rule-of-thumb limit. If corrosion products are not tolerable in the system then, at the very minimum, you should have an oxygen scavenger and biocide package since 30 days, more often than not, becomes 90 days and then 6 months.
