Hello Everybody,

I am a young mechanical engineer who is looking to distribute composite pipe repair wraps to oil/gas pipeline operators. Does anyone have any experience with products like these (e.g. Clockspring, Armorplate, Diamondwrap)? Do they see room for improvement in these products? What do you like about them? Do you still prefer using steel sleeves, if so why?

Do you see other markets for high strength, simple to install, enviro safe external wraps? E.g. water pipe repair, bridge repair, welded structure repair, etc.

Thanks!

Abexman,

Clockspring repairs are mainly used for buried pipelines. (Recently I believe they have developed for subsea lines also.) Eventhough, in certain offshore industry these repairs are considered as temporary repair methods for topside piping. May well try Devenport DML composite repairs which is more reliable material and can be done in-service. DML first developed for UK Naval vessel repairs. Check website for brochure Another material which I have come across is CorruDorr, but never tried the quality of material or repairs.

Welcome more feedback from experts in this field.

Furmanite provide a wrapping service which wraps the area in Carbon fibre fabric it results ina very strong repair.Aybee

Abexman,

Our product is a very high strength water activated composite called Aquawrap. Carbon fiber reinforcement is available, but more often our regular fiberglass wrap is more cost effective and plenty strong enough. Our product has been used in transmission pipeline repair, facilities pipe, concrete bridge column repair etc. We also have UV and field pregged composite systems.

Abexman,

Here's even more information on composite repairs.

Our product is called Clock Spring and it is a high strength, high modulus, composite pipeline repair. It is well tested and used everyday by major pipeline companies throughout the world as a permanent pipeline repair. There are significant engineering differences between our product and other "wet-applied" composite repairs that must be considered when using a composite wrap on a high pressure pipeline.

Please explore these issues at our homepage, , or feel free to give us a call to talk about it.
