Hello,

Can anybody tell me the procedure of calculations for the design of piping and installations calculations procedure for the biding purpose. as this is my first assignment and I took it as a challenge and I want to create my own calculation formulae for the future biding purposes..

here all I want to know is the guidance by which I can grasp a right track and can create my own formulae to calculation accurately and in a more quicker way.

I hope u understand what I mean.......

I am sorry, but I have no idea what you are asking or thinking. Please try again. This time be more definitive about what you are trying to do. It might also help if you explained your job title, position, responsibilities and type of project you are going to be working on.

I am Contract Mechanical Engineer, we are going to quote on a project of Piping installation covering a distance of 17 Km, then also fabricating and installing Pressure vessels, then we will be installing pipe lines from vessel to distribute fuel to different places.

I want to ask that how can I calculate the installation cost (time scheduling and manpower calculations) as well as if I want to make a drawing for the design proposal, on what parameters, I can draw design.

Please let me know the way of calculating or estimating the cost for the bid? any other guidance, if u would like to share with me? waiting for ur response....

I think if you do not know the answers to your very general questions then producing a poor estimate of the costings could well result in this being your last job as a Contract Mechanical Engineer. You sound as though you are well out of your depth. Seek a professional who has been in the game a little longer. It sounds like you are dealing with a Pipeline installation not a piping installation - totally different set of norms for estimating installation costs.

If whoever you are working for has done this type of work before ask to look at a previous job to have as a reference point. Look at the calculations and assumptions made there.

Most of those cost estimate service data are based on numbers with far too much weight from large numbers of projects with very large scales. As such they do not work well for estimating costs of small installations. Costs for smaller installations can be an order of magnitude off (sometimes in either direction) depending on the exact facilities needed. A pump station every 50 miles gives a very different cost average than a pump station on 17 KM. Project development, permits, company and mobilization costs amortized on only a 17 km project can be very high too.
