HEELLLPPPP!! I think I'm going nuts!!!

when I try to create a line ID I get this error message:

Command not allowed
'set a directory for line lists in project XML file that has write access"

I Tried SO MANY things and searched a lot without any answers. I found the Project.xml file. tried to edit it, tried to point to it's directory with environment manager.... I am no n00b to CATIA but I have no admin knowledge.

If no one helps I promise to post pictures of me in a bathing suit!! (you do NOT want to see that)

Most propably, the message says that the file declared in PipingLinesCatalog parameter cannot be accessed.
Post a capture of the [Browse] tab of [Project Resource Managment] dialog box.

If not, then post your pictures!

here are the capture requested. I will wait for the pictures... I don't want to scare potential helpers.

Eric,
I've noted that there is not a lot of info anywhere (thank to google translate, I was able to see chinese and russian forum with same questions). Where would you find the info yourself?

Hello SuperGee,

In the first picture I see that you are still using:
[ul]
[li]the default environment(CNEXT),[/li]
[li]the sample project file(...\B20\...\ProjectData\Project.xml), and[/li]
[li]the parameter PipingLinesCatalog in it, still points to a file in a read-only folder(as customized by DS).[/li]
[/ul]
This is the reason you cannot add lines to your line list.

You need to:
[ol 1]
[li]Create a new environment file pointing to a new ProjectData folder,[/li]
[li]Create new ProjectData folder,[/li]
[li]Copy paste & rename the sample Project.xml into it, etc.[/li]
[/ol]
I hope it helps.

Thanks Gel!!!

I don't exactly know how I did it, but I did it twice... [banghead]

Now, all that is left for me to do is learn the moduel [hairpull]

Have a nice day!!!

Hello SuperGee,

I am glad that you did it.

As itsmyjob said
the administration of the applications in Equipments and Systems is really hard, if not impossible.

This is due to the following reasons:
[ol 1]
[li]Number of the involved paramerets . Looking in the Project.xml, we witness that there are hundrends of parameters to be set for proper administration of a Project. All this parameters are necessary, otherwise the applications (like piping) would not be able to do smart things and checks.[/li]
[li]Parameters interelation. The Projects Administrator shall have deep knowledge of the interelation of the involved parameters.[/li]
[li]Practical experience on Discipline(s) is required.[/li]
[li]Lack of proper and analytical documentation.[/li]
[li]Lack of UI for Project's Aministration. The Administrator shall work with Text files, Catalog files, Feature Dictionary files, ...[/li]
...
[/ol]
I would like to know how big companies, like Toyota or AirBus, dealing with it.

Finally, if someone was going to write an application for Projects Administration, which makes all this in a structured and easy to understand way, would that be interesting?
