Is normal practice when welding piping with seams, not to weld two sections with veins in the same plane ?? veins have to be separated at least 30 degrees ?? thanks for your
help.

If you mean two weld seams, yes, it is good engineering practice to stagger weld seams.

I'll second the comment about it being good practice. I once saw a picture of a gas pipeline that had all the seams lined up. When the line ruptured the fracture was able to pass through the girth welds into the seam of the next joint and several hundred feet "unzipped" along the seam.

Even for some field welding operations joining steel water pipe sections, AWWA C206, Field Welding of Steel Water Pipe, contains the requirement, “Field joints shall be assembled so that seams in adjacent pipe sections are offset from each other by at least five times the thickness of the thinner of the pipes being joined.”

Thanks, for your advises, highly technical and full of experiences. The question arises because we leave a 3 inches stagger between seams and circumferencial weld and the owner is concerned/worried about this. The pipe is API5l x60
1.25 in. thick.any further comments??
