Hi:

I want to select material piping for CO2 service -60°F@100 psig, liquid. Searchig some information, I found in "Pressure Vessel Handbook" from Megyesy a table, with Chemical Resistance of Metals. With a recomendation that CS is "fair" for use in CO2 (dry) & "Caution" with CO2 (wet). This recommendation means that I have to use a corrosion admisible thickness greater than 1/8" for example or, in othe hand it´s better to use another alloy, like Inconel or Monel.

The proble to use this alloys is the price and long delivery time. I prefer to use another alloy like A333 Gr 3 or Gr 6.

Maybe do you have some recommendation for this application.

B. Regards,

Luis Felipe

Dear syedfarhanali

Thanks for your help. Now I have a better idea about selection of material, now I have another question, how about other super alloys, like Inconel or Monel? This page doesn´t have info about them.

B. Regards,

Luis Felipe

You can use them if you want to pay 5 to 8 times more. CO2 pipelines use CS, BUT you need to investigate the temperature issue. CS, I believe, is NOT going to be suitable to -60. Check into that in depth.

We designed gas processing pipe systems using A-333 Gr 6 piping impact tested to -60F. Welded it with 1% Ni alloy weld filler metals. A-333 grades 3 and 4 can also be used.

I agree. A-333 is probably what you should be using at that temperature.

Dear Luis,

I agree with BigInch, that the price is more, even then I googled and found CO2(Dry) is having excellent comparability with the Monel.

Thanks every body

I am going to use A333 Gr 9 or Gr 9 for CO2 -60F. Now I have one more question about welding, hardness test, heat treatment after welding.

Somebody can help or some guidelines about it.

B regards.

Luis Felipe
