Placing Drafting Objects on Layers Automatically

Is there a method in NX2 to place drafting objects (dims, c/lines etc) onto predefined layers without having to manually choose the correct layer each time or using the 'move to layer' command?

If so , would it then be possible to give each layer a colour (as in AutoCAD) as a visual reference of what layer that object is on?

Thanks in advance!

Neither are possible in NX.

The only way to get a certain entity type on a given layer is to set your working layer before adding the entities or moving them to a layer. Moving could be done manually or with a program.

This is one plus that Pro/E has over UG. The ability to define an entity type and associate it to a layer. But then layers are defined differently in Pro/E, too.

Computervision used to define colors by layer, so any entity placed on a set of layers was that color.
