Hi,

I have a centrifugal pump with the following data:

Process Fluid: Water with small percentage of ethanol (the process fluid is then considered flammable fluid)

Flow: 1.5 m³/h
Suc. Pressure: 0.65 kgf/cm²g
Disch. Pressure: 4.89 kgf/cm²g
Temperature: 50°C
Vapor Pressure: 1.38 kgf/cm²a
Visc.: 0.642 cP

Seal Plan selected: 53B ( plus 61?)
Barrier Fluid: Demin. Water (clean fluid)

My doubt is: It is really necessary a auxiliary seal plan 61 (tapped connections (quench and drain) at atmospheric side of outer seal)?

Since the Process Fluid and Barrier Fluid are clean fluids, Seal PLan 61 will have any future use by Customer in this application??

In my uderstanding, since barrier fluid is demin. water with pressure greater than process fluid, indirectly it is doing both seal plan jobs.

Am I correct?

Regards.

Plan 61 has throttle bushing that works as safety bushing. This will limit the leakage when the seal failed. It has drain port where heavy leakage will flow instead of splashing to the pump or worker.
