Hello all,

I have been in the process to design a steel bumper in ABAQUS.
i need to input plastic properties of Mild steel (yield stress and corresponding plastic strain)
i am not able to get these properties anywhere on the internet.

Input is non temperature dependent and isotropic.

Any formula to calculate these values will also be good for me.

i have attached a screenshot of the input window of ABAQUS where these values are to be put to give an
idea of what exactly i am looking for .

So kindly provide help!

wazir9,

You will need to acquire samples and test them. All the materials we use in analysis, we have tested (supplier, outside lab, or ourselves) for plastic properties. Then post process the test data to obtain true stress, plastic true strain data pairs at a reasonable fidelity.

An alternative would be to build a simple plasticity curve using yield, ultimate strength and ultimate elongation.

I have yet to find good plastic data readily available for any materials we have used in analysis work.

Good Luck

Hey that was good info.

Can you elaborate on building the simple plasticity curve and getting these values i need out of it??

It will be of great help.
