I would like to directly connect from my computer's com port to the PLC-5/15 channel-0.
I think this can be done but can't figure out the correct cable or parameters.
Is it a null modem cable, straight-thru or something else?

Also what is the default settings, I'm using 9600,parity-none, stop-1, error checking-CRC, full duplex and RSLinks still can't see the PLC. That's RSLink DF1-COM1 if your curious.
Any wisdom much appreciated.
And yes, I understand DH+ AND ethernet is much faster but this specific application I'm stuck with RS232 for now.

Their has been other threads on this topic, check them out also.

Remember its pins 2 and 3 on the db9 connector for rs232 comms, no flow control. Have a connector to null modem the cable just in case.

Figure out what your comm port for this cable is on your laptop. Typically its com1, device manager will tell you this under my computer.

Under Rslinx, yes its the RS232 DF1 driver
Com Port = what is it on your laptop?
Device = PLC-CH0
station number = 0 (this might be a problem, change if auto config, does not work for straight and null modem first)
Leave all other settings like they are
Push the "Auto-Config" button

If this does not work after it cycles through all the settings, then swap 2 and 3, or null modem

Push the "Auto-Config" button

You should of connected?!!!

If not then change the station number =0 to some other number >2 and <60

Push the "Auto-Config" button

You should of connected?!!!

If your not then either the com port on your laptop is not working or the plc com port is not working, or the cable is no good.

djs, as much as I would love to get sspence's hopes also I'm afraid classic processors do not have a serial port. His 5/15 is a classic processor

In fact to quote the following technote

Classic processors do NOT have a Serial Port.
All Enhanced processors have a Serial Port.

I'm sorry, the link in my previous post appears to have overflowed and I can't seem to edit it
