I'm looking for a good book on plc's.
I would like the book to have the following topics:

>LOGIC SYSTEM TYPES AND METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION
(ex. describe the function of each of the parts of an interlock control system....)
>PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER ARCHITECTURE
>LADDER DIAGRAM AND BOOLEAN NOTATION
(good if it may possibly include relay ladder diagram for a logic system using JEDEC symbology)
>BINARY LOGIC SYSTEMS
>PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER FUNCTIONS
>LOGIC SYSTEM DESIGN
>PLC INSTALLATION
>DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE AND INSTALLATION
>BLOCK PROGRAMMING
>FIELDBUS ARCHITECTURE AND CONTROL

Any suggestions??

There is a Foundation Fieldbus web site. You may want to take a look there. I think they have a paper on how to set up a FF network/system. Can't remember if it's free though.

Fisher also has documents on their Delta V, including their IEC 61131 languages. I think most are free to download.

The Delta V is sort of a PLC/DCS both. Some say neither. Depends who's talking.

You might have mentioned the entire series from that guy.

It's great although not the same caliber as the PLC section,
the other sections are good. I found that link last year
some time and think it's great. But, since you already
mentioned it.....

The whole series is:
It's either "Engineer in a Book" or "Engineer on a CD"

Opps. "Engineer on a Disk"

Here it is:

And fills in other areas of interest.

OH boy,
Dont try to print that at work. I was chewed royally for printing V4_2. Tied the printer up for 45 minutes! (and a ream of paper!)

In a hundred years, it isn't going to matter anyway.

You can try batching it, or talk to your IT, they can put it on a lower priority so other jobs can get in during your print.

Hiya ScottI2R-

Well, what I did was gather the whole collection and then
I burned a CD. Around here, a CD costs about $0.14. I tuck
the CD into my little collection of documentation and I
can easily carry it around. If I need a page or two, then
there's no problem printing them out.

There's some good stuff on the internet. Interestingly
enough, a lot of it comes from Jr. College professors who
don't want their students "ripped" by the textbook group.
There is a good computer networking book out there and
one or two on stepper motors. Also there are some (although
dated) books on linux administration from the linux
documentation project.

A little collection of CDs is pretty small.

Cheers,

Rich S.

Hi machmech

Your are certianly welcome! We are all in this together
and little links like this makes the job a whole bunch
easier!

I have a friend who has a license plate holder that says:

" I can't

Together we can! "

Cheers,

Rich S.

If you're willing to spend a few bucks, there is also a course on CD available at that includes some simulation software (if you can't get your hands on a PLC).

Though I haven't taken the course myself, I've heard good reviews from colleagues who have.
