Plotting drawing file

Hi everybody,
Can Anybody help me to explain how to create a plot file (.plt) in Catia V5?

If you want to create a hpgl file, which is the plot file, go to File/Print. In the pop-up for print, select print to file. To choose the direcotry select the File Name tab. When you hit print, it will save the file instead of printing to the plotter/printer.

Thanks for your reply.
The print to file format output is .prn and most of the plotters cannot recognize this. Any other options?

Hi goodlook,
I presume you're looking for a way to configure a "virtual" printer and use File+Print to get a hpgl file out of it. If that's the case, then we can
1. File / Printer Setup
2. Add printer
3. Sel 3D PLM Printer and Press OK
Name : i.e. GenHPGL
Driver : Generic HP-GL
4. Press OK
5. File / Print
Printer Name : Sel the new printer (GenHPGL)
6. Print to file : insetr a name (i.e. hpgl.prn)
7. Click on Properties button
...
8. Press OK

The file generated still gets an extension prn but it's
actually a HPGL file.

it's so easy....just rename *.prn to *.plt

"CATIA generated PRN file" has the same syntax like plotting files with extension PLT.

Hi there,
I guess the main point is that using FILE/PRINT then PRINT/To-A-File can of course "generate" a PRN print file using any Windows System Printer available. We can rename it to any extension as we like to, but we cannot change the nature of this PRN file, as it's still a PrintToFile Format from which goodlook's plotter cannot be recognized. So I guess what goodlook is after is to have a "dummy" printer to do the job ... pls correct me if my guessing is wrong. Kennis.

Well,
If you rename the prn file to hpgl it is recognizable. We have done that, but of course our printers read hpgl files and so do our viewers.

Hi,
I use HP 750C as windows system printer and print to file with .prn extension. but it doesnot work even if rename to .plt
What "tkchiu" explained is correct. Any other possibilities..
