Hi, I've done a little bit of research on the forum about PMI annotations. However I haven't found anything related to what I was looking for.
I was wondering if it's possible to display all dimensions (not only from sketches but also dimensions from features) in PMI.
Also, is it possible to have the PMI objects of a part to appear in an assembly? In other words, I have several parts that i have to put 3D annotations. However, I can't seem to find a way so that these 3D annotations show up when i do an assembly of my parts.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Wilson,
Yes you can do it on features also (refer to the image attached).Note that since i am on NX8 and NX8.5 (but i am 90% sure that it is in NX7.5 also) so please test it on NX7.5 also. Some more enhancements are done in NX8 and 8.5.Answer to your next question If component level PMI can be displayed at assembly level also is YES. All you need to do is to use PMI ASSEMBLY FILTER to display all compoennt level PMI at the assembly level.(image attached shows it).
Note that i have demonstrated the two solutions in a single image itself.

Hi Kapil,
As to your answer to my first question, I only managed to display dimensions as PMI for my sketches. How about the pocket feature, holes, edge blend, and all other types of features that show dimensions that can`t be selected when we right click and select "show dimensions"?
As to your answer to my second question, I did what you showed me. However, none of the dimensions that i displayed as PMI appeared..

Hi Wilson,
As i said earlier there were some enhancements done in NX8 and 8.5 for example the edge blend and holes (not checked the rest of the features though but i assume most of them are supported now)are now included in the show dimensions option kitty (and finally displayed as PMI).Probably there are some which are not supported in NX7.5.
As far as your second query is concerned can you please send me the process you are following step by step.(images will be nice)

Hi Kapil,
Sorry it took some time, as the computer at work is.. slow. Here's a step-by-step process. I did what you said, but still no result.

Hi Wilson,
You have one custom view with the name of IDENTIFICATION. As of now (as per the picture you shared) this IDENTIFICATION view is your WORK VIEW.Also when you apply PMI settings to views you left out the IDENTIFICATION VIEW only (as per picture). So either you need to select this IDENTIFIACTION view also in the PMI DISPLAY FILTER or try replacing the view to some other (front/back/top etc.) to view the PMI dimensions.

The identification view was created to test out the balloon note. I just regrouped the PMI balloon notes under this view.
I just figured out why the PMI wouldn't show even if i did what you said. The dimensions that i made display as PMI in my component was associated with the sketch. However, in my assembly, my sketch was hidden, hence the PMI objects were hidden as well. I think the PMI feature in NX 7.5 is not as powerful as it should be. Oh well.
Thanks for the help kapil! I learnt new stuff everyday by going on this forum! :)

Hi Wilson,
Sorry for my misinterpretation from my side.Your work view is different and not IDENTIFICATION.
As a work around i suggest that you make the PMI in the component available to all views first (see attached image..just make your component a displayed part and make the PMI available to all views ).This will amke the PMI available in all views.
Then follow the same route you followed.

Hi Wilson,
PMI options are being enhanced more and more day by day and i guess there will be lot of it in the near future.
Good day.

Hi Kapil,
I hope so too!
I have one more concern about PMI annotations. Do you know how i can display dimensions displayed as PMI from sketches without having to display the actual sketches in the assembly?

Wilson Yau

extendend the question,
is there a way to supress Pmi by expression like in drafting supress annotation with expression.
I have partfamily with feature supression inside, I cannot control the display on pmi anotation retaining
when the referencing feature is supressed.
regards

Hi,
Wilson you can use SHOW DIMENSION for the sketch (and later on use DISPLAY AS PMI) outside the sketch environment itself.I am not sure if this was what you are asking for.
Hi uwam2ie,
I am attaching a picture herewith.I hope this will help.

Hi Kapil,
that`s not exactly what i was asking for. I was asking if we can display the dimensions as PMI without showing the sketch itself.
What i did was putting the PMI on a different layer. It works, but then if another person wants the PMI to show without showing the sketch itself, he will have to know which layer the PMI is on..
Any better solution?

Wilson Yau

Hi Wilson,
I guess you can always display the sketch dimensions as PMI even if you have your sketch hidden.PMI can always be displayed irrespective of the sketch visibility status (once you have used DISPLAY AS PMI after SHOW DIMENSIONS).

What if the layer which the sketch is on is made invisible?

Hi Wilson,
As of now both the sketch as well as the PMI are on the same layer.Yes the PMI will also get hidden when you make the complete layer invisble.
Sorry but i would rather use CTRL+W to hide the sketches only rather than using layer.Sorry i cannot think of any other alternative.
Best Regards
Kapil

thx Kapil
not jet what the problem is, feature dimensions are working well,
how does it work for featureControlFrames SurfaceFinishSymbols or explecit Pmi's
