I am trying to develop a refrigeration unit for which I need to register the design in Canada. The codes used are CSA B51, CSA B52 and design codes include ASME section VIII. The design specification for the components are as follows:
The whole refrigeration system is to be registered as category H fitting as the volume and pressures are within the limit.
I am confused about the pneumatic test pressure requirements for the low side. CSA B52 5.10.3.3 says the following about Pressure test. Please note that in the case of the evaporator ‘the design pressure is equal to the MAWP.’
1.25 times the design pressure (238) = 297 psi
But as per ASME section VIII code, which the evaporator is designed to, the test pressure cannot go higher than 261 psi.
So, which code should I follow for pneumatic test and why? What pressure should I test it at?
