Our water treatment plant uses about 200Ibs of ZOP. recently, the po4 concentration in the distribution pipe has increased about 50% without changing of dosage. Is there any approaches we can take to narrow down the real cause of this? Thank you in advance.

The simple method is to do a mass balance. Add up the dosages. Perhaps the supplier made a mistake with the solution strength.

IMHO, you probably should look at the whole process. The dosages for PO4 are not determined by a scientific evaluation, but by artistic expression and seat of the pants feel. 3-5 mg/l is probably not enough dosage to do anything.

Sort of like your automobile seems to work better after it is washed.

Hi bimr,

We have 15 sample locations through out our distribution system. The PO4 concentration at the entry point is 1.0 average, but the rest of the samples throughout the system have much higher concentration. Do you think we should flush the hydrants more often? Thank you

If the concentration is significantly higher, than yes, you probably should flush the system. The higher concentration indicates an error of some sort. The phosphate is not going to grow in the system
