Hello All,

Learning the GSD workbench and at a point where I need to create a series of points in 3D using XYZ coordinates. Is it possible to read points from a text file into CATIA V5?

CATIA V5 R14
Windows XP SP2

Scott.

Search the Help Documentation for "Creating Elements from an External File"

Here is an extract from the beginning of that Help information:

Creating Elements From An External File

You can create points, curves, and multi-sections surfaces from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet containing macros, and in which you define:
the points space coordinates
the points through which the curves pass
the curves used as profiles for the multi-sections surface.

Only Excel sheets created with Excel 97 and subsequent versions are supported.
Therefore this capability is available with WindowsTM only.
Open any .CATPart document containing a Geometrical Set or an Ordered Geometrical Set.

Open the ElementsFromExcel.xls file from the Samples directory into Excel, and enable the macros.

Kapitan,

Thanks for the tip - but it is too complex for me.
Is there not a method whereupon I can type coordinates into a text file to create a curve?? [dazed]

Scott

this is a fool proof method.
Read the help suggested, take the example excel file, and replace the data in the file with the one you need.
you can ont only create the points, but also create the spline through them.

Cheers

Thanks all for the advice - very sound advice. :-D
